El-Borak*Red Dun Molly Mule, 5-6 yrs old, 14.2 hh, Adv Beginner, $650. Named for a mythological horse, El-Borak means "the lightning." It seemed fitting given her somewhat unique markings. I have been told that it is possible she is a Fjord mule (note the darker center of her mane edged by the lighter flaxen hair). Regardless, she is quite the striking Molly. She rode very well, altho she needs to learn to stand to mount, she wants to circle, but that is easily worked with & once on her she rides Adv. Beginner and quite smooth.

Wallace*Chestnut OTTB Gelding, 16hh, coming 6 yr old, Adv Beginner, $1500. Screaming Back aka Wallace is a flashy chestnut with tons of chrome, a sweet disposition, and a calm demeanor. He has some go, but good whoa. Not bothered by much, he's been in mixed herds without issue, pastured with sheep, emus, geese, llamas, etc. His last race was a claiming race at Thistledown on May 21, 2018, where he came in 8th, so he is still RRP eligible. He had an accident with the gate and the injury on his right rump is from a hematoma he developed afterwards that ruptured, but its now healing beautifully. He has a good handle, is forward but responds well to the rider, good turns & whoa. Versatile and young, this boy has the potential to go in any direction. On tight clean legs, he is sound, and calm & sweet. Still in quarantine, but will come clean and ready to go soon. He is UTD on Coggins, but still needs his vaccines. Meet&greets, & pre-purchase exams at adopter's expense, are welcome, as we strive for a good match & "Right Fit". Adoption fee negotiable for the right home. Tag#6426 in a killpen in Texas. A lovely bay OTTB mare, a carnation of a star blazing on her forehead, about 15.3hh, only 5 years old, Mr. Prospector/Storm Cat lines, 11 starts, she only won $1740.00, never came closer to winning than 4th place. Flower Angel. Everyone in the fb groups simply called her Angel.
Bailed along with 2 other OTTB mares, she was whisked into QT. Despite that, she and the other mares quickly succumbed to the standard infections commonly found in the auctions and killpens. One, (Lola on our Winged Hearts page), too sick, too starved, too weak to fight, had to be euthanized despite all attempts to treat her.
Fortunately, Angel was a fighter, strong and determined..."Thoroughbred" blood and bone...full of the "heart" that her lineage and breeding graces her with. One last race, not on a track, not in front of crowded grandstands, not even in front of the cameras used to video the casino racing...there was no one to cheer her on, no one to stand up holding their breathe and wishing her over the finish line...one last race, a handful of distant, unknown people quietly praying she would find the heart to win, to run the gauntlet of rescue and survive long enough to make it to our farm in North Carolina, to find safety, to find a loving family and a forever home.
She & 3 others arrived late at night the end of November, in the dark, the cold, exited the trailer, not knowing what awaited them. Covered in bites, wounds and scabs, a cut & swollen hind fetlock, thin, and sick, she nevertheless has been a sweetheart from the moment she stepped off that freedom ride. The Angel she was named for.
Almost 6 months later, healed, glowing with health, vibrant with energy, The pictures below show how truly lovely she is, graceful, athletic, sound and sane...she has enormous potential...she rides Confident Advanced Beginner...this Angel needs nothing more now than to find her special person and her "right fit" home.
Our Angel needs to find an "angel" of her own.
Brought in from a Tennessee killpen in December 2018, Peter is a the perfect example of everything an OTTB should be. He is calm, gentle, has a good head on his shoulders, athletic, good ground manners, nicely forward when asked, but has good whoa. When he arrived at Guardian Hearts, he was thin, scruffy, covered in rainrot, etc. He had a micropuncture on one back leg, that had developed cellulitis, and a micro-abrasion in one eye, tho it doesn't affect his vision in any way according to the vet after examining him. Started on the road to recovering, after vet check and x-rays, he had courses of antibiotics, daily care for his leg, and the rainrot, abscess', went thru all the classic issues associated with kp rescues, and withstood it all with patient tolerance. He is now mostly recovered, is regaining his sense of self and a classic gelding humor, you can see the brightness & sparkle back in his eye. He is sound again, and although he could still use a little weight and some conditioning to restore muscle, he is well on his way to his former glory, and with that big beautiful star in his forehead will be a shining star for the right person. As he has been worked in the roundpen and arena, it was discovered that he jumps and actually quite well (see vids below). Peter has only one vice that we have found, and that is that he cribs, but we have managed it well with a simple cribbing collar. He is still RRP eligible. He is handsome, talented, and a loving boy, and ready for his special person and forever home now. This boy is more than worth taking a chance on falling in love with!

Peter aka Quick & Furious**2013 Bay OTTB Gelding, Adv Beg. $2,250.00. This sweet pretty boy is RRP Makeover eligible, his last race was 09-11-2018. He has nice ground manners, a lovely disposition, easy to handle. He cross-ties, bathes, stands to groom & tack, no buck, rear, kick, bite, he cribs but we haven't found any other vices. He lunges, does walk/trot/canter with nice transitions, has a floaty way of moving with smooth action. Good prospect for jumping, dressage, flatwork, or trail. Mr. Prospector, Raise a Native, Gold Digger, Nijinsky II lines. His near eye has a small cloudy area that the vet said is an abrasion/micropuncture, and that it doesn't impede or impair his vision. He has full ex-rays that were done as a precaution when he came in with a small cut on his near hind leg with some swelling, and has been treated with antibiotics etc to ensure he didn't develop a problem. He adopts out with UTD Coggins, vaccines, and microchip. Approved adoption application & contract required. Meet&greets, & pre-purchase exams at adopter's expense, are welcome, as we strive for a good match & "Right Fit".

Still growing, she has yet to reach her full potential. She is gentle but green, needs miles, will make a great all round/trail horse.
Sorrel Quarter Horse Gelding. He has an amazingly kind, soft eye. He has a unique story, as we did his evaluation at the lot, thought they had sold him, then we were told he was still there (but we couldn't find him to rehome him), turned out he had been sold off site. Just when we thought he was safe, he was back at the lot (not his fault, something went amiss with the payment that was made and he was collected by the lot owner for payment due). So here he is, in desperate need of a home and a family. He was a sweet patient gelding, with a nice manner about him and rode wonderfully. He truly deserves a chance.. Now at the rescue farm, he is being quarantined. Will update soon as we have more info on this gorgeous boy. Adoption application, and first refusal buyback required. Adoption fee includes, 30 days quarantine, Coggins, farrier, and evaluation ride.

This big, bold, flashy guy came out of Florida sometime last fall, picked up by the local killbuyer here in Asheboro NC, he landed in the local killpen. . He was so thin, they thought he was a senior, when they realized he was a good deal younger they stuck him in a stall as a "special sale" horse and started feeding him up. A classic rattail down to the wispy mane, striped hooves and mottled skin, he has loud color and an eye catching pattern. A roan leopard with a blanket, and peacock spots. He supposedly has training in English equitation and a history in jumping, and he does seem to, he sure can jump (see videos below). He is gentle, anyone can ride type of horse, typically has more whoa than go, but he will go when asked, just a bit lazy, he's also been out on trails and done great. No matter what this guy does, he will turn heads!! He loves attention and treats, is personable, friendly with a typical good ol boy gelding humor. We were warned that once we rode him, we wouldn't want to let him go, but we believe he needs his special person and a loving forever home. When we brought him in he was coated with muck from standing in that stall, we couldn't scrub it off and didn't dare clip him in January, so painstakingly snipped and cut the matted clods and chunks away. We've spent 6 months getting him at a better weight, rebuilding muscle, fixing his feet, getting him riding again to build up his lost muscle, and allowing him to recover. He will pony off the gator, has been in mixed herds and is middle of the herd and gets along well. He came with the name Spot, but I couldnt leave that alone, due to his matted coating and how we had to get it off him it led to the Spotclean, and WeeGee is in honor of a photographer from the 1930s Manhattan, famous for his balck & white photos https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weegee He's UTD on coggins, vaccines and farrier. The vet aged him at 8 years old. Meet&greets & pre-purchase exams (at prospective adopters expense) are welcome, as we strive for a good match & "Right Fit". Adoption application, references, and contract required, and he will be microchipped prior to adoption.
