At GH we are dedicated to the recovery of horses in need, from the slaughter pipeline. Our goal is to empower them, and allow them to become healed, whole, and secure in homes that will see them as we do...these horses are NOT disposable, NOT valueless, NOT failures. The majority of slaughter bound horses are healthy, sane, sound horses that have been failed. When you see ads that claim "thru no fault of their own", these are those horses, life changes, families relocate or separate or start to grow,  or children grow up, people get sick, injured, or simply age, jobs change, financial circumstances alter, a hundred reasons why suddenly someone can no longer keep or maintain a horse. It is our mission to see that they are defended and do not suffer by virtue of happenstance over which they are helpless victims.

We occasionally have all  breeds and levels of horses/ponies/minis/donkeys. No equine in need is turned away. We have a special interest in Thoroughbred adoption & BLM Mustangs. In addition to horse rescue, we also do layover, quarantine, and boarding. Prospective adopters are encouraged to come and meet the rescues before adopting (see Meet&Greets), PPE's (pre-purchase exams) are welcome, at adopter's expense. Our horses come from local (and a few from not so local) killpens and feedlots. We regularly pull horses from a local  killpen. We also pull from killpens all over NC, Texas, Tennessee & PA..  We work with local County Animal Controls, have accepted owner surrenders, and even one that was simply left abandoned by the side of the road.

Our NC Nonprofit Corporation was just approved, and we officially a 501(C)3 as of May 2, 2019.. Our goal is to help educate and support local horse owners by providing support, information, and  programs to help keep our beloved 4-footers out of the auctions, feedlots and slaughter pipeline, by giving them access to as many tools  and resources as possible.  We believe in working together to assure good matches. Our "Forever Hearts" program ensures that any horse we have had a hand in placing will always have a safe landing and a home at the rescue.

Our website is live, but still under construction. We have a Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/GuardianHeartsDefenders/ & group https://www.facebook.com/groups/GuardianHeartsEquineDefenders/ . Their purpose is to provide support for our potential adopters, adopters and local horsemen, there is info in the notes on the page from DIY to information about how to advocate against Slaughter.

PLEASE NOTE: We are NOT affiliated with any of the fb groups who network horses from the killpens. WE ARE NOT ASSOCIATED IN ANY WAY WITH "LAST CHANCE KILLPEN HORSES ASHEBORO NC" NOR IS THE LOCAL KILLPEN/FEEDLOT WE RESCUE FROM THE SAME AS THEY POST FOR. PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT THEM FOR HORSES YOU SEE ON OUR WEBSITE OR EQUINENOW RESCUE DIRECTORY.

Feel free to email/message/text/call and ask questions, we will do our best to get back to you asap. Contact Lucy at (336)964-8583 or Alison (336)264-1680. If  you are interested in adopting, volunteering, fostering, or sponsoring one of Our Hearts or Heart Programs, please let us know. Thank you &  Welcome to Guardian Hearts, we need all the GH Defenders we can get to protect these beautiful creatures in need.

With your help we are changing how the stories end for our Hearts.

From unwanted, unloved, and hopeless,

To safe & beloved, in caring homes, with happy families.

What a blessing that together we can make miracles happen.

Best Senior Picture Idea Ever ...

Share the Moment With Your Horse & Make a Memory That Lasts a Lifetime.

Find a Photographer, pick a setting, choose a wardrobe (or several) don't forget the tack.

Remember that pictures are not just for Senior pics, they can be for any family gathering, holiday, or just "because"...life is too short not to capture the moments that make us who we are, enrich our lives, & hold in our hearts forever.

Be creative in your poses, show off the special bond between you & your horse, or the talents that you share. Most of all, have fun & ENJOY!!!

Thank you, Taavi & Zack, for inspiring this terrific idea!! #SeniorPictures2019.
